  Shackles

Van Beest Green Pin© Shackles

Using high quality shackles in rigging recovery gear is as important as the winchlines, ropes and straps. The original Green Pin shackles are some of the strongest and
best quality available. You have heard the saying a chain is only as strong as its weakest link...well this will be the strongest link.

'For over 80 years the production of high tensile shackles has been our core business and competence. Dirk van Beest founded the Van Beest company in 1922 and from the very beginning, the company has been forging shackles. Its ironwork expertise gave the Van Beest shackle an edge over the competition and this was the start of a network of professional users that now stretches across the globe'. Van Beest

Features:
- Shackle Type: Green Screw Pin Anchor Bow Shackle
- MAterial: High tensile steel, Grade 6, quenched and tempered
- Safety Factor : MBL equals 6 x WLL

We recommend using 3/4" Shackles as a minimum requirement for most 4x4 vehicles. Although tensile strength far exceeds any of the equipment; 3/4" fits best to recovery points and recovery hitches. 5/8" shackles should only be used on light racing buggies and cars.

Caution: Never use unmarked shackles.
Warning: Never use shackles that have been welded or previously exposed to heat/fire

Winchline Hooks

We use the best hooks available bar none. The Excel Hooks are made by Van Beest in France and the Gunnebo Hooks in Sweden. Both companies have been around for a long time and focus on quality like Viking Offroad.

The Excel hooks have large cast latches with stainless steel spring. Compare the latches in the photo below. In addition the quality of the alloy is superior to the cheap hooks found on your steel cables.

The standard hook for 3/8" Viking Winchlines are the 3/8"-7/16", PN 100501

Viking Safety Thimble©

The Safety Thimble© was designed by Blaine Johnson and Viking Offroad now has exclusive manufacturing liscense to this unique piece of winchline hardware. The idea behind the Safety Thimble© is to prevent it from being pulled in through the fairlead from the run-on from electric winches. The is one of the dangers of using a regular thimble and hook. The Safety Thimble© is large enough on the back that it can not get pulled through, rather it stops at the face of the fairlead whether it be a roller or hawse style. These thimbles are also te lightest and strongest when compared othe other steel or stainles thimbles and hooks.

The Viking Safety Thimble© is designed to be used with 3/4" shackles. They fit through the eye of the thimble in either direction. They can also be used with 7/8" shackles but only the pin can be put through, where in some instances such as connecting to a recovery point on a vehicle two shackles may have to be used. This is not an ideal setup unless the bow part of the shackles are mated.

Features:
- CNC Machined billet aluminum
- Finish: Polished, and Black 2 Step Process Anodized
- Made in USA

3/16" - 1/4" PN: 100628 $37.92

Viking Safety Thimble Isolator ©

The Safety Thimble Isolator© is used to protect Fairleads (Hawse and Rollers) from metal to metal contact that can scratch and damage fairleads. If winchlines are not properly installed under vehicle load, or you simply forget to give the remote a couple of extra clicks to tighten the thimble against the fairlead, it has a tendency to loosen up a bit and while driving will scratch up the fairleads, particularly the nice anodized ones. This is a simple inexpensive solution to provide a cushion between the parts.

Features:
- Suspension Grade Polyurethane
- Finish: Black
- Made in USA

Viking Winchline Drum Connector ©

Our Drum Connector is a secure method of attaching your winchline to a winch drum when screw mounted. These connectors use a coarse thread 1/4" Button Head Hex Screw that is commonly found on Warn winches and some others. Other brands may have metric thread (typically on Chinese made winches).

Features:
- Powder Coated Black
- Stainless Button Head Hex Screw with o-ring
- Strongest method of winchline attachment

Instructions: See last row of photos
- Install 10 " from end of winchline putting the line through it self locking in the Drum Connector.
- Thread the winchline through the fairlead and UNDER the drum (rare exceptions exist), bolt the Drum connector to flange.
- Lay remaining end of winchline on top of drum taping end down to hold it in place until winchline is installed. Subsequent wraps will clamp down on the tail of the winchline preventing it from coming undone. Wrap at least 10 wraps and proceed to installing under load

NOTE: Always install winchlines under Vehicle Load, by having at least 10 wraps on by hand then with brake pedal pressure winch yourself in.

WARNING: Avoid Cut Winchlines by checking opening of your bumper. See Illustration
